about BCS... STRUCTURE

The Bloomington Chamber Singers is a non-profit corporation originated in 1987 and registered with the Indiana Secretary of State. BCS is governed by a 12-member Board of Directors,  elected by the members.   The President is the Chief Executive Officer of the corporation and works closely with the Music Director in managing the activities of the group.  Board members serve two-year terms.  Each year, half of the positions rotate, ensuring both continuity and diversity.

The music staff consists of three paid professionals:

  • Music Director (Gerald Sousa):  The Music Director is responsible for the artistic direction of the ensemble. Each spring, he/she develops the coming season's concert schedule and, in collaboration with the Treasurer, its associated budget. The plan is then submitted to and must be approved by the Board of Directors.
  • Assistant to the Music Director (Julie Grindle) (half of this position is subsidized annually by an anonymous donor)
  • Accompanist (Kay Greenhaw)

In addition to the core music staff, BCS engages soloists and instrumentalists from the area as appropriate to the repertoire.  BCS maintains a close working relationship with the School of Music at Indiana University, and is fortunate to regularly collaborate with outstanding faculty artists and gifted students.
