In addition to an all-volunteer board of directors and support from every member of the choir, Bloomington Chamber Singers is led by two paid staff members.
Gerald Sousa, Music Director
The Music Director is responsible for the artistic direction of the ensemble, developing each season's concert schedule and overseeing the musical preparation. Read more about Dr. Gerald Sousa, our Music Director since 1989.
Paul Pisano, Assistant Musical Director and Accompanist
The Assistant Director acts in close collaboration with the Music Director in the preparation for and production of all our activities. Dr. Paul Pisano holds master's and doctoral degrees in piano performance from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. As a faculty member at Kenyon College and Iowa State University, he taught piano performance, music theory, ear training, keyboard harmony, and Italian language, while serving as music director for opera workshop and musical theatre and as faculty accompanist. He has worked as staff pianist at the Opera and Music Theatre Festival of Lucca (Italy) and the Utah Festival Opera Company. Since moving to Bloomington in 2002, he has been a frequent independent collaborator and vocal coach for graduate and undergraduate voice majors at the Jacobs School of Music and has begun a second career as a published composer and arranger.
Board of Directors
BCS is governed by a 12-member Board of Directors, elected by the members. The President is the Chief Executive Officer of the corporation and works closely with the Music Director in managing the activities of the group. Typically, our singers compose the Board, although occasionally a member is drawn from the larger community.
